Introducing Cradle Rock Lullabies

Our Thoughts

This is a collection of popular song that has been reformatted to be a musical lullaby. My son is 6 years old and still likes for us to play lullabies for him when he goes to bed at night. The Cradle Rock Collection is a nice change from the same old lullabies. I have saved the collection on my laptop so that when I am working I can listen to them. They would make an excellent gift for any expectant mom or child.

Our Thoughts

Like many kids right now our kids are just in love with Toy Story. We have seen/own every movie and the kids will watch it endlessly. As a mom I love to see my kid’s eyes light up as they find something new. When the box arrived with their Toy Story 3 Puzzle Furniture I have to say their eyes did more than light up. There was no hiding what was in this box as it had the photos on the outside. So I took a few minutes off from work and put the pieces together. The rocketship set comes with a landing base/table, two chairs/body of the rocket ship and the cone of the rocket ship. The tip of the cone comes off and has a screw section. The landing base then screws onto this section making the table. The body of the rocket comes apart to make two chairs. I have to say this is one of the best ideas I’ve seen in a long time. The kids have enjoyed eating at their table but also pretending to be Buzz and Jessie shooting off into space in their rocketship. The only problem we had was the wings for the rocket have to be removed from the one chair and placed on the cone for stabilizing the table. Getting the pieces off is easy but attaching them can take a few minutes.

Our Thoughts

With two small kids, one of them is always feeling under the weather. We had it good until this year. The kids would catch a small cold but be over it quickly. This year though we started Pre-K and while I love Charlie he’s become nothing but a germ provider. The amount of colds in our house has quickly gone through the roof since August. Charlie being older I don’t have as many problems with checking his temperature. He will hold still and can hold a thermometer under his tongue. Rachael is a completely different story. And of course she’s the one that tends to get sick faster. Using the Exergen Temporal Scanner is fast and easy. Press the button and slide across the forehead. In just 2 seconds I’m able to get an accurate reading of her temperature.

A few weeks ago the Exergen Temporal Scanner came in handy as  Rachael was struck by another bug. Her temperature read at a nice round 104. Off to the hospital we went. Having the knowledge that her temperature was so high made the decision to head off to the ER fast. If I had to wait for the various different thermometers it could have been awhile.

I am the mom of a disabled child who is at this point in time is wheelchair bound. Every time we get a new wheelchair we get the tray that goes with it. The trays are always big, bulky, and take up so much room so we end up not using them. When I saw the Snack and Play Tray I thought wow that just might work well on Bobby’s wheelchair. This product is actually marketed as Snack and Play Tray for Booster Style Car Seats and Strollers. This product has been a godsend for us so far. It is the perfect fit for Bobby’s wheelchair. It removes easily and also cleans easily. I will recommend it highly to anybody that has a child in a booster seat or even a wheelchair. I think the company may want to market it as working well with child size wheelchairs. My son loves it on his wheelchair. It is small enough the when we transport him in the van that we do not have to remove it for transport.

I chose to review this product because I have a disabled child that is still in diapers. It never fails that when I am out and about that when he needs to be changed I can never find something to put under him to change him. The dippie to go is great. I like the fact that it comes with Velcro so I was able to secure it to the inside of my van so I always know right  where it  is when I need it. It has nice pockets in it to store wipes and a couple of diapers. It is also nice because for short trips out I can toss it in my purse or back bag. I would highly recommend this as a baby shower gift for any expediting mom.  The only thing that I would change is I would like to see it a little longer in length only because my son is so long due to age but for a regular size infant it is ideal.

Our Thoughts

Charlie and Rachael love to build. Charlie has finally reached the age where he’s ready for a little more than the regular blocks. When Steve and I first got married, we realized early on that we both are kids at heart. Our first Christmas together Steve bought me a K’Nex Ferris Wheel. We spent hours together building it and watching it spin. I wanted to be able to share that joy with my kids too.

K’Nex sent us a Kick It Elmo set for Rachael. I was excited to see that K’Nex has options for smaller children. It means that Rachael and I can set next to Charlie and Steve and build as well without worrying about her getting ahold of the tiny parts. The connections are easy to use and Rachael can do the building of Elmo by herself. It may mean that Elmo has a hand on his head but if that’s the way she wants it so be it.

Charlie was lucky enough to receive a Nascar set as well as a Monster Jam set. The Monster Jam set was two parts. The first box held the Grave Digger Monster Truck. The detail on this is amazing. The driver actually has a beard. I’m told this is very accurate and that Dave Anderson is known for his beard. (Thanks Steve for the insight) The wheels are big and it actually has a shock system so if you push on the top of the truck it bounces.  The trailer was definitely a daddy/Charlie job to put together but they had fun doing it. At the end we were able to take the big wheels off of the monster truck, replace them with the “trailer tires” and place the monster truck in the trailer.

The only problem we had was removing the big wheels was on the difficult side. We were able to get them off but it was a tight squeeze.

Yoohoo Friends are these cute stuffed animals that have these huge eyes. They are love at first sight. You take one look at those eyes and want the whole collection. They are very soft and are just the right size for small hands to hold. I like the small size as my kids love to carry toy or stuff animals with them where ever they go and the size of these are perfect. They are small so the kids are not dragging them on surfaces that they shouldn’t and the right size to tuck in a pants or coat pocket. They have a noise button in them that is very easy to activate without a lot of hard pushing. They would make great stocking stuffers for kids of all ages.

Our Thoughts

Like their dad, Charlie and Rachael are in love with trains. It used to be all about Thomas in our house. Until a Chuggington was introduced to the US. Now its Chuggington all the time. From the show they prefer to watch to the character they want to emulate. Charlie is in love with being an action chugger. He will run circles around the house while choo-chooing and saying Action Chugger! I was excited to hear that Learning Curve was making toys now that include the Chugginton name. When we sat with Charlie and asked him his Christmas list this year it was filled with nothing but Chuggington toys.

From Wilson (Pictured above) to Frostini, Action Chugger and Mommy’s favorite Old Puffer Pete, Charlie wants them all. We did order a few to place in his stocking but Learning Curve was gracious enough to help this family budge out and played a little Santa early.

Once we opened the box I think Charlie would have been okay with just the Wilson Engine but we sat him and Ray on the couch while mommy and daddy put together the track. It is easily joined and because you can buy add on track you can connect more than one playset at a time to make for a true adventure. Next came the real fun, placing Wilson at the top of the tower and watching as he flowed down and around and finally looped the loop and shot off in the distance. (Okay maybe shot off was a little much but he does exit the loop and continue to travel a ways.)

There is a motorized launcher on this playset requiring batteries and adult attention. Charlie would have no problem playing with the set by himself but I would want to be with Rachael simply because she’s inquisitive and likes to stick her fingers in places they don’t belong.

Our Thoughts

You’ve seen this commercial. The one that gets in your head and all day long your walking around mumbling to yourself “Its a pillow. Its a pet. Its a pillow pet!” Charlie has been in love with Pillow Pets for some time know. Every time the commercial comes on he tells me which one is his favorite for that day. We were blessed to have a ladybug Pillow Pet sent to us. I was shocked at how comfy/plush these pillows are. Of course the green monster of jealousy reared his ugly head around our house because Rachael didn’t get a Pillow Pet of her own. Thankfully some of our local stores have started selling these adorable highly addictive pillows. Rachael is now the proud owner of a bumble bee.

The kids have a few stuffed animals but overall I find them to just be dust magnets. With the Pillow Pets the kids get the fun of a stuffed animal to play with but also the usefulness of a pillow. The kids have been sleeping on them regularly for about 2 weeks now. Going to grandma’s house, no problem Pillow Pets are slightly smaller than the average pillow and easier to cart around. The only thing we’ve had a problem with is the strap that turns the pillow back to a pet has a small piece of fabric that covers the velcro. Now I understand why its there (to protect the pillow and other items from snagging) but the kids have a hard time moving the fabric so they can hook their pillow back to a pet.

Making sure our children are literate in United State history is a hard but necessary job that both teachers and parents have to work on. The job is a little easier with the help of these well-written, engaging, and fun books. The first book in the series, Mrs. Trimble’s Trapdoor, starts us on a histological journey with Tyler Thompson, a fifth grader who is having a hard time in school. He struggles both with his school work and making friends in his class. Tyler would rather be anywhere than in school! His perceptions of school and history change when Tyler accidentally discovers a trapdoor in his classroom. This trapdoor transports Tyler to any date in history and he is able to experience the historical event first hand. He is guided through his travels by unusual and unlikely host in the school yard dog, Barnabas Bailey. I loved how the first book is an introduction to all of the historical events in the series, almost like a preview of what Tyler will see. All of the other titles in the series focus on one major historical event. Along with a history lesson disguised as fun, the books focus on a moral lesson as well.
My son is 7 and in the second grade and we are always looking for some new and exciting books for him to try. He loved reading Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor and he was able to read it quickly and understand the concepts. My son also enjoyed the illustrations that are in color, something many other early reader stories do not have. In his words, “the book was fun and I liked thinking that somewhere in my school was a secret trapdoor.” I enjoyed the colorful language, rich descriptions, and the factual accuracy of the books. I was amazed to learn a few facts that I had not known before reading the books. Mrs. Trimble’s Trapdoor is truly a fun and exciting series to read with your children or for the advanced readers in your life.
