I am the mom to two special needs boys and have a busy hobby riding as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician. I am always looking for quick easy fixes for dinner. Our Thoughts

You’ve seen this commercial. The one that gets in your head and all day long your walking around mumbling to yourself “Its a pillow. Its a pet. Its a pillow pet!” Charlie has been in love with Pillow Pets for some time know. Every time the commercial comes on he tells me which one is his favorite for that day. We were blessed to have a ladybug Pillow Pet sent to us. I was shocked at how comfy/plush these pillows are. Of course the green monster of jealousy reared his ugly head around our house because Rachael didn’t get a Pillow Pet of her own. Thankfully some of our local stores have started selling these adorable highly addictive pillows. Rachael is now the proud owner of a bumble bee.

The kids have a few stuffed animals but overall I find them to just be dust magnets. With the Pillow Pets the kids get the fun of a stuffed animal to play with but also the usefulness of a pillow. The kids have been sleeping on them regularly for about 2 weeks now. Going to grandma’s house, no problem Pillow Pets are slightly smaller than the average pillow and easier to cart around. The only thing we’ve had a problem with is the strap that turns the pillow back to a pet has a small piece of fabric that covers the velcro. Now I understand why its there (to protect the pillow and other items from snagging) but the kids have a hard time moving the fabric so they can hook their pillow back to a pet.

As the busy mom I sometime love to sit and soak in a nice hot tub, and try to relax after a busy day. The Calgon Morning Glory is heaven. It made my bath water that much more inviting and was a perfect way to relax after a busy day. I see now why so many moms use the phrase “Calgon take my away”. After soaking in the Calgon it did in fact leave me feeling very refreshed and relaxed. The Morning Glory scent was very soothing and not overpowering. The Calgon made getting in the tub with sore knees well worth it. It would make an awesome stocking stuffer.

Introducing Beecology

About six years ago I agreed to let a co-worker put a beehive on my family farm. I didn’t plan to be responsible for it, but when life events kept him from tending to it, I became a beekeeper.

I found bee science and culture fascinating, and I soon began researching bees and attending workshops at The Ohio State University agricultural campus. Beyond enjoying the science, I found that tending the bees gave me time to reflect. It became a cathartic activity.

I also came to realize how connected the bees’ world is to ours – any changes in our environment affect their environment as well. I began to think about the foods we eat, the chemicals we use, and the impact these factors have on bees and on us. That’s when the idea hit me: I wanted to make natural skincare and hair products using honey, beeswax, and other ingredients that are good for us and our world.

Our Thoughts

As the mom of a child with not only extreme dry skin as well as sensitive skin I am always looking for all-natural products that will not break him out.  The only product that I have found on the regular market that does not affect his skin is the baby products but at 7 he is getting a little big to smell like a baby. I decided to review Beecology because it is marketed as an all-natural product. I reviewed the shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bar soap, and Chap Stick. I am in love with the Chap Stick; this is the first Chap Stick I have ever found that does not burn my lips. It does tingle but does not burn. As for the lotion it was wonderful. It left a nice smooth feeling to the skin not a greasy feeling and has a nice neutral smell that is perfect for my son. The bar of lavender soap was delightful. It has a wonderful scent and was very relaxing. I can see myself purchasing more of these products. The only product that I was not fond of was the shampoo and conditioner. I did not care for the way it left my hair. I felt it left my hair weighted and feeling funny. I ended up rewashing my hair after use. The shampoo and conditioner do have a nice scent to them.

Our Thoughts

When I worked for physicians, one of my favorite things to do was to decide on the Holiday Cards. One doctor while very religious himself felt it was best to chose cards that had no religious ties. The last doctor I worked for was the exact opposite. He went the whole year without really showing his religion to us but the Holiday time would come and the list would come out. The cards must include Jesus, he preferred a Nativity scene but was okay with the Three Wise Men around the manger instead. Just looking through the catalogs of fine prints and picking was fun. The only Christmas Cards I was allowed to but were from the Gallery Collection. This year I was able to chose some for our house. This time there was no rules for me to keep in mind. I was still drawn to the religious themes but Steve wound up deciding.

Steve chose this Polar Bear card.

Our cards arrived in just a few days. The quality is still outstanding 9 years after last purchasing from Gallery Collection. They now have lined envelopes that are self sealing. (Yeah no gum tongue). I was able to place our return address on the envelopes so they are read to go. When ordering I was able to chose from several different predesigned messages and was able to end with our own greeting. Our Thoughts

One of my favorite childhood traditions for the Holidays was baking cookies with my family. My sister and I enjoyed having time filled with mixing ingredients, trying out new recipes and giving our love to family, friends and neighbors. I have been trying to add this tradition in our home as well. Charlie loves to help me cook. Without having a good place for him to stand at an appropriate height there can and has been injuries. One Easter morning Charlie and I made bunny pancakes. The result was a delicious breakfast and Charlie also wound up with a burn on his forearm. A burn that while not bad enough to need medical attention he still has a scar from it. So being able to have Charlie and Rachael help and not worry about them falling off a chair or getting burned by using the Guidecraft Kitchen Helper was a joy.

When our Kitchen Helper arrived it was expertly wrapped. The feet were each individually wrapped and the Kitchen Helper actually comes mostly assembled. We had to install the feet which took all of 10 minutes and it was ready to use. When not in use the Guidecraft Kitchen Helper folds to only a few inches wide. Our Kitchen is a tight space but I can quickly store the Kitchen Helper next to my desk and the TV trays.

The kids can move in and out of the Kitchen Helper without help. They are at the perfect height for helping mix ingredients. Rachael has even been using it to help herself to a cup of Tassimo hot cocoa. Since this year we will be making cookies with my mom and my sister and nephews I can quickly fold the Kitchen Helper and move it from our house to my mom’s so all the kids can use it. It’s lightweight and relatively portable. One side of the Kitchen Helper even has a chalkboard on it.

Our Thoughts

Steve often works nights. I however cannot sleep when I’m alone in the bed. I used to think it was that I couldn’t sleep if I was alone in the house but with the kids I’ve seen no difference in the sleep pattern. If Steve’s not laying next to me I’m up until 2-3 a.m. and I still get up and do the rest of our routine for the day. I’ve tried using medications to get some sleep but I tend to feel groggy and hazy the next day. It’s not a pleasant feeling and being the parent taking care of the kids it’s not a good idea. Prescription Audio sent me a copy of their Nocturne vibrational sound therapy to test out. To be honest I was a little wary at first. Was it really going to work? Was I going to achieve a deep sleep?

The documentation that comes with the program suggests using headphones to start with. Since I wear headphones all day long working I wasn’t quite able to try this. We did use our CD player and finding the right volume took a little trying. It started as too loud and the vibrations were jarring, then it was too soft and we couldn’t feel the vibrations but we finally reached the right volume and I have to say I loved the feel of the vibrations. We consistently used the sleep therapy for 3 weeks and honestly it was the best sleep ever. With going back and forth to my parents house over the last couple of weeks I got out of the habit of using the CD and I can say I definitely feel the difference. Tonight is a new night though and the CD will be back on.

Recently I was able to review the Pocket X-Shot extender at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. It hands down was the best accessory for the camera I have found. I can easily take a photo and include myself in the photo. It’s come in handy at the pumpkin farm and at school this week. There is a turn dial that attaches the camera to the extender quickly. The camera can the be positioned at different angles to achieve the best picture.
